If you’re one of those who can’t fathom the significance of Karva Chauth and enjoy a good laugh, don’t miss actor-director Sohaila Kapur’s dramatised readings of two of Roald Dahl’s short stories on infidelity. Tales of the Unexpected ,one of Dahl’s greatest collections will come alive with music, visuals ,choreography and dramatic lighting at British Council today. “I’ve always been a Dahl fan. His writing is beguilingly simple yet he manages to shock you,” says Kapur.

Prepare to squirm in your seats as Sunit Tandon,Ramesh Thakur,Nandini Sra and Kapur tell you how versatile a piece of lamb proves to be in Lamb to Slaughter and have you enjoy the wickedness of Mrs Bixby and the Colonel’s Coat . The theme of the evening is Dahl’s entertaining point of view on extramarital affairs and their aftermath, and Kapur has stuck to the focus. “The plot is often deceptively simple,it could happen to anyone. But to bring out his bizarre endings you need to build an atmosphere,” says Kapur who has introduced Sangeeta Sharma,a dancer,in the readings,a move she feels has worked very well for the production. But Dahl is not the first author Kapur has designed a reading for. A few months ago,she launched her first reading for Harold Pinter. “Dahl’s work lends itself to experimentation simply because of the twist in his tales. We’re planning to perform this series later in the year as well,” says Kapur. The evening starts with an audio visual feature on Dahl.

The show starts at 4 pm.
