For teenagers,this is perhaps the biggest wedding of the year. Edward and Bella are finally taking the plunge. The vampire and the human are getting hitched. While the bride will be dressed in a gown designed by New York-based Carolina Herrera,the groom will be seen in a tuxedo.
After receiving rave reviews world over,the cinematic version of Stephenie Meyers celebrated Breaking Dawn,fourth book in the Twilight series,is releasing in India today. Directed by Academy award-winner Bill Condon,this has Robert Pattinson playing the vampire,Edward Cullen; Kristen Stewart is his lady-love,Bella Swan; and Taylor Lautner is Jacob Black,the werewolf.
Everyone might not be excited,but for the Twi-Hards the ardent fans of the series the marriage of the two protagonists on the big screen calls for a celebration and Delhi is dressing up for it. If bookstores have stocked more copies of the publication,cash registers are ringing at the box office.
We are confident that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I will do well. The previous movies in the series got a great response in Delhi. This movie released internationally on November 18 and it has already broken many box office records abroad, says Rahul Singh,senior vice president,PVR Cinemas,pointing out that the box office openings in the UK stood at 13.9 million pounds and in the US it was a whopping 291 million dollars. Anant Verma,business head and director of DT Cinemas,is equally confident. Weve received an excellent response for the advance booking,especially over the Internet. Im sure that well have a full house over the weekend, he says.
While bookstores like Full Circle and Bahrisons in Khan market have filled their shelves with books from the series,Landmark has a competition that can win the fans free movie tickets. People just need to fill a form that has questions pertaining to the Twilight series. Weve also displayed cardboard posters of the movie and cutouts of the characters. A prominent display has been given to the books,DVDs and music cds of the previous movies, says Shagan Mokta,store incharge at Landmark in Ambience Mall,Vasant Kunj.
Cyberspace is also full of funky Twilight paraphernalia. Team Edward and Team Jacob t-shirts are available on ebay for Rs 3,000 upwards and the Breaking Dawn-themed lip gloss sets are priced at the same amount. In the US,Twi-Hards are purchasing replicas of Bellas gown for less than 800 US dollars and Alice Cullens bridesmaid dress can be purchased for a few cents less.
The book is action-packed and the movie should also be exciting, says 21-year-old Peggy Nepram,a sociology student at the Delhi School of Economics. Business analyst Vasundhara Banga is planning to watch the movie three times at least. The 21-year old says,Im going to catch the first show on the first day with my best friend. The next two times Ill go with a couple of other friends.
You cant watch a Twilight movie just once, she says.
