When a Samajwadi Party leader in Noida gave out bicycles to dalits during the opening of Prerna Sthal,no eyebrows were raised. In fact, the party has been trying to propagate bicycles (the party symbol) in the district ever since it came to power in Uttar Pradesh. At first, they attempted to make cycling popular by carving out a cycling track on the Noida Expressway. But after a few close shaves, the plan was abandoned. Next,Noida got a dedicated path for cyclists. But,that too was discarded after the path was converted into parking lots due to the lack of parking space. The problem is that Mayawati has installed elephants (BSP symbol) everywhere. In this war of symbols,SP seems to be constantly losing, a senior BJP leader said.
On their toes
Chaos in court
Recently, the court hearing the arguments on the quantum of sentence in the MBBS admission scam case, had barred the media from the courtroom during the pronouncement of the sentence. Desperate to catch the tiniest piece of information, reporters crowded outside the courtroom doors, bombarding all those coming out of the room with numerous queries. This resulted in major confusion over the actual term of punishment. Until the written order was handed out, even the lawyers were not certain about the amount of fine imposed on their clients. As a result, the breaking-news reports on the sentence carried a variety of fine figures.
Array of responsibilities
The High Court which recently commented that was virtually running the government with its orders has now had to intervene in a rather peculiar matter. Recently, the administrative incharge of a district court approached the High Court complaining about its sweepers who were not reporting to work regularly. Since all administrative work, including day to day affairs,of all lower courts come under the High Court, the administrative incharge requested the HC to intervene in the matter.
Labels for leaders
Apart from the VIP section at the Narendra Modi rally last Sunday, the only other reserved seats were those for specific RWAs. At one end of the pavilion were stands that were marked Chandni Chowk,Burari and so on. Jokes were made on these demarcations by those who were sitting there. Seats have been designated so that leaders from the area can recognise us. They are probably afraid that they wont know who we are or where we are from. You see, they have barely visited us in the last five years, they said.
Token of appreciation
Sunil Yadav, the BJP candidate who will be demanding a party ticket against Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit, left no stone unturned to root for Narendra Modi when the partys prime ministerial candidate was in the city. While Modi was attending an event at the Thyagraj Stadium,Yadav was busy putting up his hoardings which also featured Modi. By the time the event ended, the roundabout was covered with hoardings.
A social party
In the run up to the Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP has been known to be expanding its presence on the social media. Now,Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has been found following journalists across social media. Several reporters have received friend requests from ABVP activists who are complete strangers. The requests seem to be an effort to engage with the media in the upcoming elections. Interestingly, the activists are already setting the stage by adding profile pictures and cover photos of Narendra Modi, the partys prime ministerial candidate. They are also talking repeatedly of Modis achievements in Gujarat.
Blame game
After the Delhi University Vice-Chancellor pulled up colleges for not holding classes,a section of teachers alleged that the surprise visit, with journalists in tow,was a media gimmick. The university administration is trying to shift the blame of failure of the four-year undergraduate programme on the teachers, a teacher said.
