Status: It’s Complicated

The film revolves around a male dancer Rudra,who is creating a dance drama based on Tagore’s Chitrangada. Even as he grapples with the character of Chitrangada,a Manipuri princess brought up as a boy by her father,Rudra meets the long-haired,drug-dependent drummer Partho,played by Jishu Sengupta. It’s a relationship that Rudra’s parents and friends warn will not last long but he himself thinks that he has found the key to permanence — having a sex-change operation that would make him a woman.

“There is a constant fluidity in the subject of the film where self-conflictory ideas clash to take the story to the next level. There was no linear movement in the acting pattern of the cast. The actors have grown into their respective characters,” says Ghosh. Apart from Sengupta and Ghosh,the film boasts a star cast of Anjan Datta and Raima Sen.

Ghosh has acted in films before,but Chitrangada,he insists,is different. “This is the first time that I’m acting in my own film. So it was challenging for me to be the director as well as the central character. During the pre-production stage,I had to make sure that when I was in front of the camera,my ideas and visions as a director were implemented by those behind it,” he says.

Ghosh plans a nationwide release of the film soon.
