‘Bharat Ki Jalak’ at ASN Sr Sec School

ASN SR Sec School,Mayur Vihar,held a programme titled,‘ Bharat Ki Jhalak’ on the occasion of Independence Day. The programme started with the rendering of patriotic songs. Students of junior wing staged a ballad depicting the journey of India from 1857 to 1947. The senior students highlighted the development of the country in various fields after 1947. A street play was also presented on ‘corruption’ highlighting a malady that is deteriorating the fabric of society,and eradicating this problem will be a true freedom for the country. Neelam Verma,Regional Director of Education,graced the occasion. She told students to inculcate values and to respect the freedom. She emphasised on the need to make the society free of social vices. K L Luthra,the chairman of the school,said the real independence would only be achieved when social issues are eradicated and this was possible only through education.

DPS,Mathura Road,hosts economy fest

In keeping with its tradition,the Economics Club of the Delhi Public School,Mathura Road,hosted Eco Fest 2012 on July 25. The annual festival was inaugurated by M I Hussain,principal,Delhi Public School,Mathura Road. Various dignitaries from the fields of finance,national and international economics,history,oration and advertising were also present on the occasion. Nineteen teams from schools in the Delhi-NCR region attended the festival.

Four competitive events were organized – a declamation competition,where the budding economists pondered upon issues such as the Euro zone crisis,China’s slowdown and the Union Budget. A movie presentation contest – Movie Economics – exhibited the students’ mental prowess. When a picture speaks a thousand words,a moving image’s capabilities are limitless. An Ad-Mad contest,where students displayed their advertising skills,was also held.

In declamation,the first position was bagged by DPS Sushant Lok. In movie-making contest,the first place went to DPS Rohini. In the Ad Mad event,DPS RK Puram came in first followed by DPS Faridabad.

G D Salwanians preserve the past for the future

The Heritage Club ‘Dharohar’ of G D Salwan Public School,Rajinder Nagar,organised a tree-planting drive on July 28 in Bhuli Bhatiyari Ka Mahal,Southern Ridge,which has been officially adopted from the State Department of Archaeology by the school for restoration in an attempt to sensitise youths about the importance of heritage conservation. The school principal Vijay Laxmi Singh said,” One of the reasons for frequent natural disasters is the decreasing green cover on the planet. With increase in population,trees are being cut,in huge numbers,to meet human requirements. It’s our responsibility,therefore,to plant trees in lieu of all those that have been cut so far.”

Dr Naveena Jafa also spoke on the occasion. This was followed by the planting of saplings in the Bhuli Bhatiyari premises .

Maxfort students’ date with commandos

Images of gun-toting commandos marching in a straight line immediately brings to mind feelings of gallantry and heroism. The students of Maxfort School were treated to a visit by such commandos recently. The chairman of AIATA Bitta was also in the school and he helped in putting up a demonstration about commando operations. The atmosphere of the school was like that of a commando training ground. The students were excited to interact with these brave men. One of them said,“It was after interacting with these highly trained personnel that we realised how tough it is to fight terrorism.” Ragini Kaul,Principal of Maxfort School,Rohini,thanked the commandos for taking time out to come to the school and interacting with students. “We salute you for what you do for the nation. We should learn from on how to put the nation before our lives,” she said.

Theatre competition at St Mary’s,Dwarka

St. Mary’s School,Dwarka,organised an Inter-House Theatre Competition on the July 24. Various Houses showcased plays like ‘Everything in Its Proper Time’,‘Polka Polka’,‘A Dollar’,and ‘Ebony Scrooge’. The competition exposed the students to various aspects of theatre production like direction,casting,props,etc. Gaurav Pahava,well-known theatre director,Anil Dagar,Assistant Manager,Circulation,The Indian Express,and Ani Mary Algoo,an education consultant from New York,judged the competition. Shakti House was awarded the first prize followed by Shanti House.
