Samjhauta: Bridging the chasm between India and Pakistan
Manas 2011,the annual project presentation of KR Mangalam World School touched a million hearts as it showcased the talent of our young ones in many forms. The theme ‘Samjhauta’ was a beautiful initiative aimed at bridging the gap with our neighbouring country — a first-ever endeavor by any school in the country. Besides teaching little ones about the cultural and social domains of Pakistan,it also exhorted them to look beyond biased opinions and prejudices. It was a move aimed at initiating peace for future generations, wherein children are allowed to formulate their own ideas and rationalise their ideas through positive thinking. The tiny tots of Class II learnt a lot about Pakistan, which shares a lot of similarities with India. The children, who gathered information on its art, culture, cuisines, places of interest and customs, were excited to know that the country, with which we share our boundary,is as multi-faceted in matters relating to language, festivals and cuisines. The project was a continuous learning experience, through which children picked up the finer nuances of their language in the form of Qawallis and Mushairas. The children engrossed themselves in making ethnic juttis, carpets, kites, etc, besides performing various forms of dance. It was an enjoyable experience for students as well as teachers. While preparing the presentation, the children were found to be oozing with zest and zeal. We hope that this presentation will enable us to send the message of Aman Ki Aasha across.
