St Marys School,Dwarka,hosts first woman locomotive driver
Class VII students of St Marys School,Dwarka,got an opportunity to interact with Laxmi Lakra,the first woman engine driver of the Northern Railways .The students were pleasantly surprised to have such a distinguished personality, who has carved a niche for herself in a predominantly male bastion,in their midst. During a face-to-face interaction with the students,she fielded queries on what it felt like to be a role model for women. She was also quizzed on matters relating to gender bias in her profession. During her interaction with the students,Laxmi remarked she felt delighted that so many women looked upto her. Stating that her idol was IPS officer Kiran Bedi,who had also made a mark for herself in a profession usually dominated by men,she thanked her parents for giving her support and expressing faith in her choice of career. The session concluded with the children lining up to take her autographs. Laxmi was later given a memento by the principal,Sheelu Mathew.
RAK Child Study Centre celebrates annual day
The Rajkumari Amrit Kaur Child Study Centre affiliated to the Human Development and Childhood Studies department,Lady Irwin College celebrated its annual day on February 24. The programme began with a prayer to goddess Saraswati,followed by the school song sung melodiously by the children. A yoga performance by three-year old children left the viewers spell-bound. An action song My Dream depicted the boundless imagination of children. The theme of the presentation,Koi Nahin Hai Kam,highlighted that every individual has a unique spark which needs to be recognised and nurtured. The event came to an end with all the children dancing to a lively Rajasthani folk song. The highlight of the programme was that each and every child participated in the function. The philosophy of inclusion,with mainstreaming as the ultimate aim,was reflected in all the presentations. Children with special needs participated in the spirit of companionship,and expressed self-confidence with their non-disabled peers. As all the items were prepared by the teachers with sensitivity for childrens interest and age,it gave every child an opportunity for creative expression.
DAV Public School,Dwarka,celebrates World Cup
The Dav Public School,Dwarka,is celebrating World Cup Euphoria from February 25 to March 25. During this period,the school will involve itself in innovative activities such as colouring,fancy dress competitions,poster-making,display board contests,play cards,slogan writing activity,Western dance,quiz contest,declamation,cricket match (teachers v/s students). Its a matter of great pride for the DAV fraternity that its alumnus,M S Dhoni,is leading Team India in the World Cup.
Cambridge School,Indirapuram,holds art and crafts competition
Cambridge School,Indirapuram,organised its first inter-school art and crafts competition,Impressions,to showcase the skills of students on February 5. As many as 14 schools from Delhi and NCR participated,making the event a huge success. Students from Classes I to VIII participated in four different categories. While categories I,II and IV dealt with painting through the use of different mediums,while category II had students making collage with waste materials. The event was judged by Pratul Dash,an eminent artist. Bhomik Rajlok from Class II of Cambridge School,Noida,won the first prize in category I while Debopriya Mukhopadhya from Class IV of Indirapuram Public School,Shivraj Singh of Class VI of Delhi Public School,Ghaziabad,and Saksham Kohli of Class VII from the host school won the first prize in categories II,III and IV respectively. It was a joy watching the students unleash their talent and creativity.
Inter-class news reading contest at St Marks Public School
To enable the students to find,edit,arrange and represent news effectively,an inter-class news reading competition was held at St Marks Senior Secondary Public School,Meera Bagh,for students of Classes IX and XI on January 24. Each section was represented by a team of two students,who participated with a lot of enthusiasm. The students were very creative and innovative. The prize winners at the competition were Shivraj S Talwar,Chirag Khatri,Parag Hirna,Nikita Verma,Shilpi Agarwal,Niharika Kapoor,Sarthak Kathuria,Chetna Kapoor,Tanya Singh and Harman Narang.
Mount Carmel School bids adieu to Class XII students
Mount Carmel School,Anand Niketan,bid farewell to its Class XII students in a solemn graduation ceremony. The principal,Dr V K Williams,initiated the proceedings with a word of prayer seeking Gods blessings for the students and wishing them a bright future.
The Class XI students sung hymns for their seniors,and the teachers presented a soulful and emotional song. The students expressed their gratitude to the faculty as well as fellow-students as they read out their testimonies. Dr V K Williams presented each student with a Bible,a cup with personal photograph, a class picture and roll of honor. The ceremony ended with the lighting of candles,signifying the mission of Mount Carmel School students to dispel the darkness of ignorance with the one thing that they hold dearest to their hearts thirst for knowledge.
All India Darshan Academy sports meet conducted
The all-india Darshan Academy Sports Meet was organised by the Darshan Education Foundation,Delhi,at Chhatarasal Stadium,Model Town,on February 13 and 14. More than 500 students from 16 schools across India participated.
Darshan Academy,run under the aegis of the Darshan Education Foundation,is celebrating its 15th Jubilee this year. The main aim of the foundation is to impart holistic education for the body,mind and soul under the guidance of Sant Rajinder Singh Maharaj,founder chairman and head of the Sawan Kirpal Ruhani Mission. Sant Rajinder Singh is a recipient of five honorary doctorates for his work on peace,education and human unity. The foundation not only provides specialised coaching in different sports but also encourages talent through scholarships. The annual sports day commenced with a march past by four houses,led by their respective house captains displaying perfectly synchronised movements. After the oath ceremony,guest of honour Padmashree Mahabali Satpal lit the torch. Sant Rajinder Singh declared the meet open with the release of balloons. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the school principal. The day saw Rajinder House walking away with the trophy for the best House. Darshan Academy,New Delhi,bagged the Senior Championship Trophy.
