A schools initiative from The Indian express
Quest is a project conducted by The Indian Express in schools in and around Delhi. India is known for its forests and jungles. It is home to many exotic species,be it the Hangul or the White elephants. Is our greed proving to be disastrous for the famed wildlife? Poaching and hunting, how can we stop them? What role can students play in preserving and conservation of wildlife? Quest quests.
If today I ask somebody about a mammoth,I will be laughed off with a question about what the term means. A mammoth is an ancestor of the present-day elephant,an animal species that is now extinct from earth.
Soon we will hear the same for tigers and many other animal species as well. Yes we will,if we go on destroying the natural environment at the same pace. Being thankful to God for giving us the most evolved brain,we should use it for the betterment of the society and other species as well and not to make plans for how to destroy it. We are destroying the forests where these animals live,we are killing them not only for our need but also for our never-ending greed, and moreover the sudden change in the climate brought due to human deeds is another reason for their extinction. Why man has forgotten that we are not the only species living on this earth, but also billions of animal and plant species are share this plant with us? We should conserve wildlife and try saving them from reaching the verge of extinction.

Wild animals are the pride of every nation,But,they are killed for luxury and fashion,Shark soup, turtle eggs are relished as food,Shahtoosh,seal-skin are fashionably good,Tiger, lion, turtle, chimps, snake and parakeet,Such exotic pets many people love to keep,Ivory, turtle shells, and stuffed animals as souvenirs,Medicines from tiger and rhino-horns and musk deer,Wild animals are for the jungle made,But selfish hunters go for wildlife trade,They capture, kill or poison many a beast,To sell their products and make a feast,Many of us buy these products to gain fame,But killing animals is a very big shame,Wildlife trade has reduced the animal number,Making them extinct or endangered,do remember,So all of us to this wildlife trade should put a stop,And blood-thirsty traders be punished by wildlife cops,Trees which are cut can be easily restored,By planting new plants and trees some more,But wildlife once selfishly destroyed,Can never ever be completely revived,So wild animals should be wild and not tamed,Destroying wildlife will make the nation ashamed.

Todays news headline: White tigers and one-horned rhinoceros are no more on this earth. Imagine how you will react to this news? God made this earth balancing its living system so that each survive and enjoy its beauty at its fullest. Man has always been selfish and irresponsible towards his duties towards paying back to Nature. He keeps on degrading it and as a result many of the species are on the verge of extinction .Global warming, pollution, increasing population and illegally poaching and hunting of luxury items made from animal skin are some of the reasons.
Education and awareness among people are the two tools that can help to keep our earth balanced. Wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, reserves at many places are the efforts made at government and individual level to conserve wildlife.
Lets emit lesser carbon, say no to the products made from animal skin and adopt the natural lifestyle to contribute towards wildlife conservation before its too late.

India is always known for its rich cultural heritage but seldom have we realised that there is a heritage of wildlife. The tigers of Ranthambor, rhinos of Assam, lions of Gujarat, and elephants of Kerala: one could surely compliment this beautiful part of the Indian jigsaw. But from quite some time this beautified part of our eco-system is fading. Many species of animals have become extinct while some are on the verge of extinction.
Animals are soft targets for poachers and greedy businessmen to mint money out of them. The eco-system is getting disrupted. Let alone what we can derive from them for our uses there is a basic right for them to live which I think nobody can take from them. Not only wild animals in particular,in India the lives of domestic animals are at no less a threat. Stray cows and dogs their condition is witnessed by all. What we need to do is be a little more sensitive towards the animals and realise that God has sent them with the right to live. Why cant we do away the thrill of hunting? Weve been killing our fellow human beings,so why drag those who cant object? NGOs,government acts etc,are no solutions; we need to know that in harmony life exists. An animal doesnt harm anybody until it is harmed. Wildlife is a precious wealth which our country has in abundance. We dont need to invest it,but we should preserve it,protect and harmonise with them and this wealth of ours will automatically multiply.

Wildlife has suffered a lot because of human beings and their activities. Increasingly efficient weapons such as bows, rifles, and shotguns enabled people to kill animals with growing ease. With such weapons, hunters have killed off some species of animals. People also have cleared forests, drained swamps, and dammed rivers to clear the way for agriculture and industry. These activities have seriously harmed or destroyed large areas of plant and wildlife habitat. Human beings may also disrupt the natural processes of the habitats. These disruptions affect the diversity and size of living populations in the habitats. Today, human activities kill off species with no hope for their replacement, and so the variety of life decreases.
If people ignore the need for wildlife conservation, todays endangered species will soon become extinct. Many other species will also face extinction. If this happens, human beings will lose much of great value that cannot be replaced.
Wild species of animals and plants provide many valuable substances, such as wood and other plant products, fibres, meat and other foods, and skins and furs. So,wildlife is very important for human survival.
