Rickshaw puller held for raping 77-yr-old

The elderly woman was found on Saturday morning in a bruised condition. Her family said she was beaten up by the accused and left for dead. The incident was reported from near K N Katju Marg police station.

Police said they zeroed in on Adivasi after he did not present himself before the police despite specific directions.

“Seven teams drawn from four police stations questioned 500 rickshaw-pullers,” said Meenu Choudhury,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest). “He did not come to the police station and get photographed so that it can be shown to the victim. This made us suspicious.”

Police claimed to have recovered the chemical-soaked handkerchief used to sedate the victim. The Rs 25 she paid were also found wrapped in it. A shoe-flap recovered from the crime spot also matched his shoes,police added.

Adivasi came to Delhi in 2006 from Madhya Pradesh. A bachelor,Adivasi lives in Rohini Sector-15. He allegedly took the victim to a deserted spot in Japanese Park area and raped her on Friday night.
