Python caught near DLF Emporio

A seven-foot python was caught on Saturday morning from Nelson Mandela Marg opposite DLF Emporio shopping mall.

A seven-foot python was caught on Saturday morning from Nelson Mandela Marg opposite DLF Emporio shopping mall. The reptile’s presence in bustling area attracted a large crowd and also paralysed traffic movement on the road, police said.

A Wildlife SOS Helpline team reached the spot, but by then the snake was on top of a compound wall of a building on Nelson Mandela Marg.

Officials said the presence of hundreds of people frightened the snake, which slithered up a tree next to the wall.

“After the snake was beyond the reach of the WSOS team, the fire brigade was called to use a ladder to reach for it” said Harshad Solanki of Wildlife SOS.

It was caught after a three-hour struggle, during which the python tried attacking the SOS staff twice. The python was restrained and captured safely inside a large cotton bag brought by the wildlife team.

Officials said that it is possible that the large python might have come to the populated area from the neighboring JNU forest.
