Heavy traffic at the entrance points of Barapullah Flyover (Express photo by Praveen Khanna) The public works department (PWD) is planning to install height barriers at all entry points of the Barapullah elevated corridor in Delhi to restrict the entry of heavy vehicles such as trucks, lorries and buses, officials said.
The decision to put the barriers was taken following a written request by the Delhi Traffic Police informing the department that the stretch was facing heavy traffic congestion due to the entry of heavy vehicles, officials added.
“The traffic police also said that it was not possible to deploy police personnel for round-the-clock duty at the flyover point,” an official said.
The Barapullah flyover provides signal-free movement between Ring Road and Aurobindo Marg. The department has floated tenders for installing steel barriers at the entry points of the main carriageways of the flyover from the Sarai Kale Khan side.
The elevated corridor was constructed in two phases: first, a 4 km stretch from Sarai Kale Khan to connect south Delhi areas during the Commonwealth Games, and the second between Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and INA. It provides a signal-free ride between Noida, Sarai Kale Khan and South Delhi areas, including AIIMS, Green Park and others.
