While astrologers were anticipating the significance of the date 10.10.10,at Gallery Threshold in Lado Sarai, director Tunty Chauhan was putting together an exhibition that celebrates the palindromic date. “We wanted to make use of the opportunity,” says Chauhan. So she got 42 artists — veterans and contemporaries — to conceptualise artwork in the dimension of 10×10 inches.

“It is an interesting format. It is always challenging for artists to work in a different medium and size,” says Chauhan. The outcome is varied. If Satish Gujral paints the relationship between the man and bulls in bronze in his acrylic,Krishen Khanna sketches the humble horse cart and his trademark bandwallas in dark pencil strokes. Arpana Caur depicts the pain of the lovelorn couple Soni-Mahiwal against a black backdrop and V Ramesh dedicates his series to traditional Indian games, from marbles to lattu. Recognised for his large scale canvases,GR Iranna’s School series has children with masked faces struggling to read. “It was initially difficult to conceptualise since I am used to larger work, but eventually it went well. I chose to portray how the imagination of the young is restrained,” says Iranna.

The exhibition is on till November 10. Contact: 41829181
