The Delhi Police,on Tuesday, said they have arrested a writer of detective novels for allegedly duping people after promising them money for contracts of erecting cell phone towers on their property.

Anil Saxena,42,from Moradabad, used to write detective novels till his publisher shut shop. The police said to earn money,Saxena took to cheating using the skills penned in the 16 novels, which he claimed were authored by him. The police said Saxena,a graduate and son of a lawyer, was arrested from Moradabad on Monday.

According to police Saxena used to allegedly take money in advance from unsuspecting persons and then hand them a bag containing blank white papers as payment from the mobile company for erecting towers.

“While giving the money,Saxena would convince the victim that he should open the bag and check the amount only after reaching home,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Shalini Singh said.

One of Saxena’s several victims,Rakesh Kumar,a dairy owner from UP’s Sahibabad, was duped of Rs 28,500 after Saxena promised to get contract for installation of cell phone towers. Using his excellent communication skills,Saxena ,who had given a bag to Kumar claiming it had Rs 1 lakh, convinced Kumar that he should open the bag later. When Kumar checked the bag at home,he found that he had been cheated and approached the police. Saxena was arrested as he was trying to fix another ‘deal’ at Company Bagh in Muradabad. Police have registered a case Section 420 of IPC.
