In Nagaland,an adornment of large bison head on a red beaded string is considered to be a sign of good fortune this was among the pieces that were on display at a jewellery show,Adi Kriti, held at The Ashoka hotel on Wednesday. Organised by Jetha Bhai Zaveri jewelers, the show focused on a little known area tribal jewellery from the North-East.
Models strode down the ramp, their steps in tandem with the tribal music and drum rolls that played in the background. Among the most awe-inspiring pieces were the gold claw necklace that clung snugly to the collar bone and a thunder dragon necklace in gold and turquoise that clasped the neck, encasing it like a prey well caught. The Reang Ensemble was inspired by the jewellery of the Reang Tribe of Tripura while the Cloud Burst necklace touched on the cloud burst in Cherrapunjee and Mawsynram in Meghalaya. Among those floored by the collection was jewellery designer Aparna Gujral, who found the necklaces innovative and striking. Hemant Sagar from the label Lecoanet Hemant was enthralled by the tribal influences.
The collection is being exhibited at Jetha Bhai Zaveri,Vasant Vihar, till June 9. Contact: 26141462
