MCD to launch anti-mosquito drive

Despite various measures being taken by the MCD to ensure community participation,breeding has been detected in 23,593 houses,for which the Health department has issued 30,693 legal notices and challaned 1,466 persons,he added.

Central cross-checking teams of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi,NIMR and National Vector-Borne Disease Control Programme have reported high aedes mosquito-breeding indices from various institutions,such as IIT,NIHFW,JNU,police stations,offices and educational institutions.

The localities most vulnerable to mosquito breeding are Netaji Nagar,Prithviraj Road,Kusumpur Pahari huts,Pratap Vihar Phase-II,Nithari village,JJ Colony,Uttam Nagar,Tulsi Ram Colony,Nangal Raya,Indra Park,Mangolpuri Phase-I,Sadar Bazar Delhi Cantonment,Sheikh Sarai,Shaheen Bagh,Prashant Vihar,Railway Colony in Punjabi Bagh,Raj Nagar and Palam.

“The aedes mosquito,which transmits dengue and chikungunya,can breed in any kind storage container — even if it has a very small quantity of water. I

appeal the administrative heads of all government and autonomous bodies,educational institutions,commercial establishments,market associations as well as citizens to initiate the required steps to prevent mosquito breeding,” said Mehra.
