According to Delhi Police records, Shorab has been named in 19 criminal cases, including charges of murder, attempted murder, dacoity and extortion, offences under the UP Gangsters and Goonda Acts, and the Arms Act.(File Photo)A 23-year-old man and his cousin were allegedly assaulted by two bouncers at Privee, a club inside the Shangri La’s Eros hotel complex in Connaught Place — over a broken toilet flush — said police.
An FIR has been registered in the case under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (wrongful restraint), and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the BNS against unknown persons, they said.
A police officer said an investigation into the case is underway.
According to the FIR, police said the incident took place on July 1, when the man, a resident of Tilak Nagar, visited the club on Ashoka Road with his cousin, 32, at 12.30 am for dinner.
Around 4 am, he went to the bathroom and found the toilet flush broken, causing water to overflow, the FIR stated. As soon as he came out, a staffer at the club accused him of breaking the flush, leading to an argument between the two.
The FIR alleged that two bouncers rushed in, allegedly pushed the man, and took him out of the club. He asked the bouncers to stop pushing him around but they allegedly kicked and punched him, the FIR alleged.
When the cousin tried to intervene, the bouncers allegedly beat her up as well, it claimed.
The duo was made to leave the premises, after which the man made a PCR call. By the time police reached the spot, the FIR stated, the club had closed and the accused left the premises.
The cousins were taken to the LHMC Hospital for treatment. Their medico-legal case report confirmed physical assault, the FIR stated.
Their statement was recorded by police later in the day.
Representatives of the Shangri La hotel told The Indian Express that the club is not owned or operated by them, but they are coordinating with the local authorities.
Representatives of Privee did not reply to queries sent by The Indian Express.
