Maken plays masterplan card

Maken has worked out six categories of voters in his constituency,which has a concentration of 36 urban villages and a population of around 3 lakh. With a sizeable village population in the area and no sitting Congress MLA,Shahpur Jat and Zamrudpur were the obvious choices to kick off his campaign.

I wanted to develop a connect with the people. In the other areas of my constituency,which have wider roads,it will not be possible to reach the masses in such a close gathering, Maken told Newsline.

A large number of Congress workers and MLAs,besides area councillor Jayshree Panwar,were present.

As crackers,flowers and refreshments created the right mood and brought quite a few residents out of their houses,Maken jostled his way through the crowd,making his presence felt with a waving hand.

In a new poll stance,Maken and his supporters only harped on his achievements as the Minister for Urban Development,Power and Transport,making minimal promises for the future. I have come asking for support not on the basis of promises but on the relief that I have already provided to the people and the work that has been done through the Masterplan 2021, he told the gathering.

By promising implementation of the masterplan,ruling out building regulations for urbanised villages,unauthorised and regularised colonies and promoting all commercial activities in villages,Maken did manage to earn a few brownie points.

Public opinion did seem to be in favour of this Congress candidate,with the popular municipal councillor rallying for him,and also for the Masterplan 2021 sop that Maken promised.
