It’s his last gatherings before he steps onto the big league, and Abhishek Jha looks like he wants to make the most of them. Bangalore’s Jha,who has plans of joining the domestic pro tour in the coming season and play the Asian Tour qualifying school next year, took the early lead at the LG Northern India Amateur Championship at the Delhi Golf Club.

Jha’s two-under 70 was later matched by SK Lakra, who was among the last players to finish on a rain-delayed afternoon. Jha,who will spearhead India’s challenge at the Nomura Cup,is going for his second straight win on the tour.

“I was really happy with my hitting today but the putting let me down. If I could have avoided the bogeys on my card,I would have been excited about my round but I am still satisfied with what I shot,” Jha said.

The three-way chasing pack has HS Kang,Kanishk Madan and Rahul Bajaj, who all shot level-par rounds. Delhi’s Rashid Khan struggled on the greens and finished with a round of two-over 74.
