It’s Out in the Open

Cyber Hub in Gurgaon with its swanky restaurants and open spaces is a welcome shift from the malls.

Men sporting long black coats and nerdy glasses look curiously at their laptop screens in the open area outside cafes. This might seem like an everyday scene from Times Square or the backdrop of the recently released black comedy film The Wolf of Wall Street, but this is Gurgaon’s equivalent of a “green lung” in Cyber City Called Cyber Hub, the nouveau destination is located in front of the iconic ship-shaped building and gives a 360-degree experience of food and entertainment with open-air restaurants and generous walkways.

While leading food chains across two floors enhance the experience, it’s the 2,00,000 sq ft of space, much of it open, that has everyone drooling. It affords lunchtime strolls for corporates, an open-air amphitheatre for rock performances and live match screenings, and more importantly, a break from the monopoly of mall-entertainment.

Sahana Kulkarni, a 23-year-old audit professional, says, “It offers a space where you can eat or choose to have coffee. The malls are congested and closed spaces. The open air here makes it appealing.” Janani Raman, who works at Cyber City, has visited Cyber Hub more than 30 times since it opened on October 15. “I come here for the ambience, the open lawns, the trees and the music. It gives me a good feeling to be here after work,” she says.

Rishabh Chadha, 26, from Bhopal, says, “Open air restaurants are common in Bhopal but I could not find it here. This hub fills that space.” Safety too is premium here.

Raman feels more safe than in malls, with security guards at every corner, even when she comes after office.

The number of footfalls only shows its growing popularity. Anant Verma, business head, DLF Cyber Hub, says, “The space has around 15,000 footfalls during weekdays and close to  28,000-30,000 on weekends”. At the last count, there were over 31 restaurants and cafes, with the number reaching 47 soon, DLF promises. Cyber Hub seems to tick to all the right boxes — the place to see and be seen in.
