The Hrithik Roshan-Babara Mori starrer Kites was screened at PVR Priya as part of an awareness initiative by the Celiac Society for Delhi and, although the film did not live up to the hype,it was heartening to see the large numbers of doctors and their families attend the event. The Indian Express was the media partner for the evening. Celiac disease is a hereditary condition in which gluten, the protein in wheat, oats, barley and rye, causes damage to the small intestines and reduces their ability to absorb food. As a result,it can lead to an entire range of symptoms such as lactose intolerance, mouth ulcers, loss of weight, stunted growth and eczema. What is worse is that the disease can strike at any age between nine months to 90 years. “The Celiac Society soon turns four and there has been an increasing number of awareness campaigns and Celiac Days observed. During the awareness initiatives,we felt obstacles in our way to explain the perspective and magnitude of celiac disease in a few words. Thus,a film,Cure is in the Cause has been produced,” says Ishi Khosla,Founder,Celiac Society For Delhi. The five-minute film was screened before Kites and featured parents of patients suffering from the disease, doctors, nutritionists and members of the Celiac Society.
