The rap singer is back with her second album after a gap of five years.
After making the nation groove to her hit single Ek Glassi and having lent her voice to Bollywood numbers such as Paisa Phek in Johnny Gaddaar and Party abhi baki hai in F.A.L.T.U,Hard kaur is back with her second album, which is titled P.L.A.Y (Sony Music; Rs 175). The album, which will release later this month, has come five years since her first album Supawoman.
Besides collaborating with artistes such as Mika Singh and Lehmber Hussainpuri for the album, the queen of rap as she is fondly called will be seen shaking a leg with Eminems band D 12 in the track titled Desi dance, the video of which is already out on Youtube.
Thirty-three-year-old Taran Kaur Dhillon, who became Hard Kaur, says that she is more excited about her second album as compared to her first one. Supawoman was about my struggles since at that time,I was trying to make a mark. Now,I am at a happier stage. P.L.A.Y is a celebration of being able to make it big without having a famous star connection, she admits.
Other numbers in the album such as Boyfriend,Mujhey peene do and Hello baby promise to keep the party spirit alive, like many of Kaurs previous songs. I love the street language people use in New York and Mumbai. We have, therefore, brought out a fusion of hip-hop and the slang used in Mumbai, she says about a song in the album.
Kaur hopes that with this one,she will be able to revive the earlier trend where non-film albums were as popular as Bollywood ones. I am trying to recreate that movement. Selling a non-film album is now harder, since we dont have financial backup. Through this,I want artistes to be inspired and not be scared of coming out with their own albums, she says.
But alongside non-film music,Bollywood is also happening. She has joined forces with Pritam for a song in the film Rush and is looking forward to her rock track her rock track in ABCD AnyBody Can Dance,a dance-based film by choreographer Remo D Souza.
