Ghazipur underpass opens today

The Ghazipur underpass connecting Anand Vihar ISBT to Kalyanpuri will be opened for traffic on Friday even as the three-lane Ghazipur crossing grade separator on NH 24 will take another month to complete.

The Ghazipur underpass connecting Anand Vihar ISBT to Kalyanpuri will be opened for traffic on Friday even as the three-lane Ghazipur crossing grade separator on NH 24 will take another month to complete.

The underpass, constructed parallel to Road No 56 for uninterrupted traffic movement,is 635 metre long with dual carriageway of 9 metre in each direction.

The Ghazipur intersection, located at the junction of NH-24 bypass and Road No 56 in East Delhi,is one of the busiest junctions in East Delhi. Besides Delhi,it caters to traffic from other states as well. Peak hour traffic on intersection is more than 13,000 vehicles.

“All Commonwealth Games-related projects will be completed on schedule as they are being constantly monitored to accelerate the pace of work. But the speed of work will not mean a compromise on quality,” Public Works department minister Rajkumar Chauhan said while announcing the opening of the underpass.

The grade separator at Ghazipur will, meanwhile, provide signal-free traffic movement between Delhi to Indirapuram and Ghaziabad. The 770-metre eight-lane flyover is being built at the cost of Rs 246 crore. The flyover, which is 95 per cent complete, will also have two lanes for non-motorised vehicles like rickshaws and bicycles. An 80-metre long rotary is also under construction for allowing rught turn to traffic. The PWD has also constructed slip roads to allow left turn. The PWD will also be constructing three foot overbridges — two on NH-24 and one on Road 56.
