A 48-year-old man shot dead his wife in front of their 11-year-old daughter following an argument at their flat in a residential society in Ghaziabad’s Nandgram area on Tuesday morning, police said. The couple — previously booked under the Gangsters Act in connection with a murder case — had been living separately due to a family dispute, officers said. The accused, identified as Vikas Sehrawat, has been absconding since the incident, and a search operation is underway, they added. According to police, the incident happened inside Ajnara Society, where Sehrawat’s wife, Ruby (45), lived with their two daughters, aged 11 and 16. The elder daughter had left for school when the incident happened, officers also said. Police said that preliminary inquiry revealed that Sehrawat had come to the flat on Tuesday morning to collect his passport and Aadhaar card. “An argument broke out between him and Ruby. In a fit of rage, he shot her,” said ACP (Nandgram) Upasna Pandey. Ruby was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead, officers added. Police said the child, who witnessed the shooting, is currently in a state of shock. “The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination,” Pandey said. Police said that the weapon used in the crime was illegal, adding that an FIR has been registered in the matter.
