Every month there will be a review of the security in Delhi, says Kiran Bedi.
At the Sanyojak Sammelan held for election booth heads of the BJP, the party’s chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi said on Thursday if she became the CM, she will start a radio talk show on the lines of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann ki Baat. “The Prime Minister will speak through Mann ki Baat and Delhi’s chief minister will speak her ‘Dil ki Baat’ every month to connect with Delhi. History will be created,” she said.
Bedi, who will be contesting the Assembly elections from East Delhi’s Krishna Nagar, is already being projected as the next chief minister among party workers. She said as chief minister, women’s security will be her priority.
“Every month there will be a review of the security in Delhi. We will take stock of places where crimes take place against women. We will try to find out who is at fault — whether it was parents, the school, police or the administration. In each case, we will fix responsibility. And every month during the talk show, the CM will give an account of the action taken and who was at fault in which case,” Bedi said.
After the December 16 gangrape case, Bedi said she participated in a number of panel discussions. “I have heard the earlier CM asking what could be done if the police is not with the CM. Who said it was not? I have worked as special secretary to the Lt-Governor. The L-G’s office joins the CM and the police, it brings them together. But there needs to be an alignment between the CM and the L-G’s office. If this alignment is broken, it is the common people who suffer,” she said.
What happens in Delhi, Bedi added, becomes international headlines. “The smallest of things here make headlines. But there will be no more horrible headlines from Delhi. If Delhi makes headlines, it will be for good reasons,” Bedi told party workers.
The programme at the Yamuna Sports Complex was attended by BJP president Amit Shah, national vice-president Prabhat Jha, Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Goel, East Delhi MP Maheish Girri and Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay, among others.
Asking all booth heads and panna pramukhs to work with their “tan, mann aur thoda dhan” (body, mind and a little wealth) she said, “We are here to do our job. If we deserve it, we will reap the fruit. If we believe in the Bhagwad Gita, then we have to keep doing our work. This is the rule of nature. As we sow, so shall we reap.”
Over the next few days, Bedi will campaign in her constituency but not with as much fanfare as was seen during a roadshow on Wednesday when she filed her nomination.
