Garhwal,Veterans win

Garhwal Heroes FC struggle hard to beat a formidable Shahdara FC unit by 1-0 to collect three crucial points to remain in contention for a quarter-final berth. The first half was a listless affair with both teams levelled goalless. The tempo changed dramatically when ends were changed. Garhwal Heroes mounted withering pressure consistently against Shahdara’s citadel through their foreign national — Idahir Bola Alhasan of Nigeria. However Shahdara managed to kept the strikers at bay until the 70th minute. The winning goal was struck by Garhwal’s former India international Ashish Pandey. He fired a fine curving cross from the right that found the net after the Shahdara custodian muffed a simple take.

With Shahdara desperate to find the equaliser,the match became a scrappy affair. FIFA match referee Mohammad Kamil flashed yellow cards to Garhwal Heroes’ Idahid Bola Alhasan and Shahdara’s John. John,who lost his temper against a linesman for a perceived incorrect offside almost had his yellow elevated to a red card,but Kamil was persuaded otherwise. With the win Garhwal Heroes have collected 6 points from 3 matches while Shahdara have 10 points although they have played three games more. In another match at the DDA Jasola,Sports Complex,Delhi Veteran FC registered a 2-0 victory against Indian Nationals to gain three points.

The goals were scored by Karanjeet in the 28th minute while Amandeep put one across in the two minutes in the second half. Veteran’s have thus registered their first win of the League. Veterans now have 4 points from 5 matches while Nationals are yet to open their account after 4 games.
