If you want to hear Hindi songs between funk bass lines and bluesy guitars,try tuning into the Delhi band Faridkot. They also,surprisingly,throw in a bit of jazz-style drumming and occasionally layer it with electronica. Confused? You are not the only one. The band itself calls its music Confused Pop. Its tough to categorise when the music has a bit of everything, says Inderpreet Singh aka IP,the lead vocalist of the five-member band,which made it to the top three at this years Channel V Launchpad,along with Cassinis Division and Reverse Polarity.
The year-old band was also a finalist at last years competition for the countrys best Hindi band and believes that their Hindi compositions are the reason for their mass appeal. The Hindi songs come naturally to us and they work to our advantage since more people are able to relate to them, says IP,who writes most of the lyrics. And though they prefer playing their original songs,they often throw in a few unexpected Mohammed Rafi and Kishore Kumar covers as well.
With 10 original compositions in their hands,the band is in the middle of recording their tracks for their debut album. We have already started recording our songs and are looking forward to releasing the album by October, says IP.
