Moving ahead with its aim to provide more security and assistance to women,Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday approved the setting up of one-stop crisis centre for women in two hospitals of the state.
The facility has been approved for Badshah Khan Hospital in Faridabad and General Hospital in Gurgaon. The centre will remain open 24 hours,with duty doctors and police personnel available round the clock.
Dr Pronita Ahlawat,senior gynaecologist,has been appointed as the coordinator for the crisis in Faridabad and her counterpart in Gurgaon is Dr Sunita Sharma,senior medical officer.
Director-General,Women and Child Development department,Sumita Misra said a crisis centre is a comprehensive service,which will provide medical and other support services such as legal aid,police help and counseling under one roof to women victims of domestic violence,sexual assault and others.
Around Rs 35 lakh each will be spent on the two crisis centres. Another centre is proposed to be set up in General Hospital in Sector-6,Panchkula,officials said.
Mishra said her department will be in the lead role and the other participating departments are health,home and police. Besides the coordinator,there would be a team of eight to 10 people at the centres. This will include a counsellor,a police officer,a lawyer,two doctors and support staff.
