The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has arrested two men in the last week on charges of alleged involvement in various cases of fraud. The police have also recovered a fake passport,fake currency notes and various illegal weapons from the possession of the two accused.
The accused have been identified as Ramandeep Singh Kohli (33) and Brijesh Nandan Bahnot (40).
Kohli was arrested from Dwarka Sector 22 last week. A.32 bore caliber loaded pistol and seven live cartridges were recovered from him. The police said Kohli produced an arms licence issued from Amritsar,which was later found to be forged.
From his residence in Sector 22,we recovered fake currency notes worth Rs 55,000 in denominations of Rs 500,a double barrel 12 bore caliber gun with 60 live cartridges,30 live cartridges of a 7.65 bore caliber gun,a .22 bore caliber rifle,a khukri,a fake passport,16 mobile phones,SIM cards,two red beacon lights,a large number of fake documents including passbooks and cheque books of various banks,PAN cards and various identity proofs issued under fake names and addresses, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell),Alok Kumar said.
During sustained interrogation,Kohli told the police he used to run a computer hardware company,M/S Technosoft InfoTech,in Chandigarh. In 2002,he got involved in an illegal passport/visa business from Jalandhar. He and his associates,Rajeev Bajaj and Jaideep,were arrested from Delhi a year later and released on bail.
After their release,he started a business of supplying manpower and offering admissions to clients at different universities overseas,charging Rs 15,000 to Rs 1 lakh. After receiving payments,he would close his office,change his mobile number and disappear. He cheated a large number of people in Chandigarh and Punjab this way. He also managed to procure an arms licence under a fake name, DCP Alok Kumar said.
Police officials said Kohli later started procuring fake currency notes after he came in contact with Brijesh,the other accused. He invested the fake notes in his finance business in Delhi and Punjab. In July 2009,he shifted his base from Punjab to Dwarka and assumed a fake identity under the name of Manjeet Singh. He procured a fake driving licence,a voter identity card,a PAN card and bank accounts using this name.
At Kohlis instance,Brijesh was arrested from Panchkula in Haryana and fake currency amounting to Rs 15,000 was recovered.
