On the coming Sunday,a princess will awaken from a deep slumber after a lingering sweet kiss from a prince,to rise and celebrate her magical wedding in a palace as Little Red Riding Hood, the Big Bad Wolf and the dainty Lilac fairy come to pay court to her. A ballet,The Sleeping Beauty presented by India Fernando Ballet Company will open to Delhi’s audience with a brisk third act —the wedding of Princess Aurora to her Prince Desire at Kamani Auditorium. The original ballet comprises a prologue and three acts.

Set to a beautiful score of Tchaikovsky, the scene set against a baroque stage with King Florestan and his Queen hoisted on ornate thrones would open with a host of fairy tale characters coming to bless the couple. Choreographer Fernando Aguilera, will play Prince Desire. About the dance moves,he said,“We have followed the original choreography but I like to put in my own ideas and make it interesting.” So besides the customary twirls, look out for some sweeping lifts. An impish Puss Cat trussed in his customary knee high boots along with the White cat,the Jewel Fairies—Amber,Emerald and Blue Sapphire and the naughty Hop-O’-My- Thumb will celebrate the magical wedding of Aurora and Desire dancing in the ballroom of a 16th century French palace. The one hour production features 20 dancers who have been rehearsing since February. A must watch for kids, check out the fairy tale costumes and Asawari Sodhi as Princess Aurora.
