Exit polls predicted yet another victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on most of the capital’s seven Lok Sabha seats alongside the possibility of the INDIA bloc being able to wrest just one of these as counting day inches closer.

In a first for the capital’s political history, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress contested the polls as per a four-three seat-sharing agreement in Delhi this elections.

In 2019, for the second time running, the BJP had swept each of the seven Parliamentary constituencies in the capital, claiming over 56% of the vote share. The Congress had secured more than 22% while the AAP could garner a little over 18% of the vote share last time around.

Most of the prominent exit polls predicted a more or less similar result for the capital on Saturday with the least number of seats being projected for the BJP at five and two for the INDIA bloc.

In terms of vote share, the exit polls predicted more or less a repeat of 2019 with around 50% to 56% of it expected to be in favour of the BJP. Seats including Chandni Chowk and North East Delhi, according to the exit polls, were among the two Lok Sabha segments which were likely to swing out of the BJP’s grip this time around.

At 58.69%, excluding postal ballots which account for a small proportion of the total votes polled in the city, according to Election Commission of India statistics, the overall voter turnout in Delhi this time witnessed a dip compared to the consolidated 2019 polling percentage of 60.6%.
