A slight mishap, not a fatal crash. That was the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) team’s story at Ambedkar Stadium on Wednesday as they bounced back from a goal down at the breather to play out a 1-1 draw against Authority of India (AAI) in the DSA Institutional Cup football tournament.

The draw meant both teams booked their places in the second round. Playing possession football from the beginning,AAI came close to going a goal up in the 15th minute, only to be thwarted by the DTC goalkeeper. But AAI opened their account just nine minutes later when DTC’s D Roy fouled Vikas Rawat in the box and the referee pointed towards the penalty spot.

Rawat made no mistake in putting the ball to the left corner of the net.

DTC showed a more positive approach in the second-half and pressed harder. After squandering an easy scoring chance in the 40th minute, they hit the scorecard two minutes later when Dhirender Singh netted the equaliser off a volley from the centre. After dodging a winger and the Airport Authority custodian,Singh chipped the ball into the back of the net.

While AAI fought hard to take the lead back, and came close in the 57th minute, the goalkeeper saved DTC further blushes.

Bankmen score draw
In the second match of the day,Urban Development scored a 1-0 victory over Bank of India. The bankmen dominated the first-half and came up with two good moves,in the 12th and 23rd minutes, but failed to convert them into goals.

Urban Development went into the lead 12 minutes into the second-half when Devender Singh converted a cross from the right flank. Bank of India went close in the 48th minute but the shot was deflected off the post. The win, though, would not help Urban Development since they are placed at the bottom of the table.
