Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday flagged off 200 modern low-floor CNG buses,which are part of the Express Bus Service launched on the lines of the chartered bus service.
The Delhi Transport Corporation initiative aims at encouraging more people to use public transport when traveling for work.
The buses that have been inducted into the DTC fleet include both AC and non-AC buses. With this the DTC fleet has gone up to 4,931 buses.
The fare structure of the Express Service is Rs 20 for non-AC buses and Rs 30 for AC buses. The Corporation also plans to issue monthly passes for regular passengers fare would be Rs 900 for non-AC buses and Rs 1,100 for AC buses. There are plans to provide free newspapers and magazines to the commuters in the buses,officials said.
Around 72 routes have been identified for the chartered bus service,which has been planned to cover most of the major areas in the city. The buses on the Express routes will ply from Monday to Friday,officials said.
