On the first day of the U-16 and U-14 tennis nationals,top seed and local favourite in the boys’ U-16 category,Shashank Nautiyal,made a shock first round exit at the Fenesta National Tennis Championship after losing 6-4 4-6 2-6 to Dhruv Pal at the DLTA complex.
Dhruv had another first round match in the U-14 category on the same day,which he won in more convincing fashion 6-0 6-3 over Chandigarh’s Paramveer Bajwa.
The second seed in U-16 category Fatehdeep Singh from Punjab,fresh from his Asia leg of International Challenge Cup team win,had to dig deep into his reserves to beat Dheer Singh 3-6 6-3 6-2. Third seed Jude Raymond from Andhra Pradesh also faced moments of uncertainty before he prevailed over Alien Johnson from Kerela 6-1 3-6 7-5.
Fourth seed Deepak Vishwakarma from Uttar Pradesh was tested by Maharashtra’s Abhimanyu Dakwal in the first set before he won 7-6 (4) 6-4.
