Delhi News Highlights, July 27: Three students were found dead after the basement of Rau’s IAS, a UPSC coaching centre in Rajendra Nagar, was flooded following a nearby drain burst on Saturday. Police, fire services and NDRF recovered the bodies from the building. “Here a drain has burst at one point due, due to which this issue has occurred. Pumps have been placed to remove the water, had it been due to lack of desilting then the water would have accumulated in other buildings as well, but the basement of only one building has been submerged because the drain brustat only one point,” AAP’s Rajinder Nagar MLA Durgesh Pathak said.

Meanwhile, in light of the stand-off, at least 4 INDIA bloc CMs decided to boycott the NITI Aayog meeting in Delhi, including Telangana’s Revanth Reddy, Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah, Himachal Pradesh’s Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is also not attending the meeting, reported PTI, citing officials.

Delhi Minister Atishi on Saturday, taking stock of the situation at a coaching centre in Rajendra Nagar, said that a magistrate has been ordered to investigate the incident.

This comes after the second student’s body was recovered from the flooded basement of the coaching centre.

“Strongest possible action needs to be taken against those whose negligence has caused this incident. Whoever is found guilty should not be spared and action needs to be taken against them on priority,” she said.

West Bengal CM spoke her full time, mic was not switched off for her, says FM

Refuting allegations made by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that Mamata spoke her full time and her mic was not switched off in between at the NITI Aayog's governing council meeting on Saturday, news agency PTI reported.

Sitharaman, who was present in the meeting, in a post on X said, "She (Mamata) spoke her full time. The screen in front of our tables kept showing the time. A few other CMs spoke beyond their allotted time. On their own request, extra time was allowed without any fuss. Mikes were not switched off, not for anybody, particularly, not for CM, WB. Mamata ji has chosen to spread falsehood. I was happy she attended. Was happier when she said she is speaking for Bengal and in fact for the entire opposition. I may agree or disagree with what she had to say. But now with her saying baseless things outside, I can only conclude that she is making an effort to keep I.N.D.I alliance happy." Sitharaman said in response to a post by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh who backed Mamata's assertions and said the NITI Aayog "muzzles all divergent and dissenting viewpoints".

43 people accused of committing trans-national cyber crime produced in Delhi court

43 accused who allegedly committed a trans-national cyber crime where foreign nationals were targeted and defrauded online were arrested by the CBI from Gurugram and produced before Rouse Avenue court on Saturday, a day after being sent to a day-long judicial custody.

The CBI requested custody of three accused and requested the court to send the rest to judicial custody. "It was alleged in the FIR that a racket was running whereby residents of the USA were cheated by the accused who were running a racket. A banned software was found from a call centre and in this case the US is also involved...FBI is involved," the CBI told the Court.

The central probe agency also added that transactions worth 15 million US dollars were involved in this case.

Gujarat to set up GRIT think-tank on lines of Niti Aayog: CM Patel

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Saturday made a pitch for setting up a Gujarat State Institution for Transformation (GRIT) on the lines of the NITI Aayog, which serves as a public policy think-tank for the central government, news agency PTI reported.

Speaking at the governing council meeting here of the NITI Aayog, Patel also said that Gujarat was committed to realising the prime minister's vision of making India a developed nation by 2047. Patel also introduced the 'Gujarat@2047 Dynamic Document-Roadmap' for realising the goal of 'Viksit Gujarat' for a 'Viksit Bharat', the report stated.

The roadmap is built on the two pillars of 'Earning Well' and 'Living Well,' and aims to enhance people's quality of life and bring economic prosperity, Patel said at the meet.

The chief minister announced the formation of a think-tank, Gujarat State Institution for Transformation (GRIT), on the lines of the NITI Aayog, to systematically achieve these goals. He also affirmed Gujarat's commitment to the development vision by adopting the Prime Minister's 'GYAN' mantra, focusing on the advancement of the Garib (poor), Yuva (youths), Annadata (farmers), and Naari (women), according to the report.

Patel noted that Gujarat, despite representing only five per cent of the country's population, contributed 8.3 per cent to the country's GDP in 2022-23. Gujarat is advancing towards becoming a USD 3.5 trillion economy by 2047, Patel said, highlighting the state's achievements in key areas such as PM Gati Shakti, Health, Nari Gaurav Niti, Shri Anna (Millet), Natural Farming, Digital Agriculture Mission, MSME, and Amrit Sarovar. Niti Aayog meet: Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai pitches for promoting natural dispensaries, AI

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai Saturday pitched for promoting skill-based education, natural dispensaries and artificial intelligence in his state, as he committed his state's full support in achieving the goal of making India a developed country by 2047, news agency PTI reported.

Speaking at the Governing Council meeting of the Niti Aayog, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sai listed various priorities and efforts being made for Chhattisgarh's development with an emphasis on education, human resource development, health and technological advancement. He said Chhattisgarh will play a pivotal role in "Developed India by 2047".

Emphasising the role of youngsters in the development of the state, the CM said the main focus of Chhattisgarh is on preparing skilled human resources. Education in Chhattisgarh is being linked to vocational skills and training, with an aim to give such capabilities to students that prepare them for employment, Sai said, at the meeting, according to PTI report.

On land and property issues, Sai said all land records in Chhattisgarh are being digitised. "This technology will increase transparency and control corruption. This reform will make land disputes easily resolvable, which will encourage investment and development in the state," he said.

Sai thanked the prime minister for his support and cooperation towards the priorities and needs of Chhattisgarh and expressed hope that with the help of the Centre, the state will achieve its development goals and play an important role in realising the vision of "Developed India by 2047". (PTI)

Minor girl falls off roof of building in Aman Vihar after getting slapped by man, Delhi Police files case

Delhi Police have registered a case in Rohini's Aman Vihar against a man after a video went viral showing him slapping a minor girl, causing her to fall off a roof of a half-built building.

The state Congress, on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's presence at the NITI Aayog meeting, said that Banerjee went to the meeting without consulting other Opposition parties.

Congress spokesperson Soumya Aich told news agency PTI, "We have nothing to say on this issue. We had boycotted the meeting and she did not. She did not consult us and went on her own."

The meeting also focusses on recommendations of the 3rd National Conference of Chief Secretaries held in December last year.

During the conference, recommendations were made on five key themes -- drinking water: access, quantity, and quality; electricity: quality, efficiency, and reliability; health: accessibility, affordability, and quality of care; schooling: access and quality and land and property: accessibility, digitization, registration, and mutation.
