Delhi govt increases minimum wages

Labour Minister Dr A K Walia said the government has been regularly revising minimum wages.

Delhi government on Monday announced a hike in minimum wages for skilled,unskilled and semi-skilled labourers. The new rates were worked out after adjusting the dearness allowance and will be applicable to clerical and non-technical supervisory staff in all scheduled employment.

Labour Minister Dr A K Walia said the government has been regularly revising minimum wages. “According to the new rates,monthly wages for unskilled,semi-skilled and skilled workers have been increased by about Rs 500. The Delhi government has been maintaining the highest minimum wages in the country,” Walia said.

He said workers have been asked to contact the District Office of the Labour department in case they are not paid wages in accordance with the new rates.

According to the hiked monthly wages,skilled labourers will now earn Rs 9,386 instead of Rs 8,814,semi-skilled labourers will earn Rs 8,528 instead of Rs 8,008 and unskilled labourers will earb Rs 7,722,up from Rs 7,254.
