On the first day of registration for undergraduate admissions, applicants to DUs four-year undergraduate programme were seen grappling with issues relating to admission guidelines.
Most students complained that details in the prospectus were not thorough. The prospectus only contains the links to colleges and does not mention the courses provided, Shiv Kumar, applicant, said.
Other students faced issues in filling the details in the forms. Many were confused regarding subject codes to be filled in the OMR forms. The subject codes in Board marksheets are three digits, and those provided in the prospectus are two digits.
Wondering if the option of BCom (Programme) was present in the OMR form,Priya Gambhir, who was at Miranda House, said,I have a 63 per cent in Commerce in Class XII and Im not hopeful of securing an honours seat. Since the programme courses are no longer available,my options are limited.
At Lady Shri Ram College, students opting for commerce as their main discipline were confused if mathematics was a requirement.
The DU has directed colleges to do away with mathematics as an additional eligibility criteria for admission to commerce, but LSR officials confirmed that the college has decided to keep mathematics.
We are not insisting on counting math among the best of four subject score, but students should at least have had mathematics as a subject in Class XII, LSR spokesperson Kanika Khandelwal said.
She said this is because there are papers which require a certain level of knowledge of mathematics in the commerce syllabus. However, the college is open to reviewing this decision,if DU issues such a directive.
