Complaining of rigging in Gurgaon, AAP writes to EC, seeks repoll in 110 booths

In the letter addressed to CEC V S Sampath, Yadav said the AAP had submitted a complaint to the EC on April 10, the day Gurgaon went to polls.

Aam Aadmi Party candidate from Gurgaon, Yogendra Yadav, wrote an “anguished” letter to the Election Commission on Monday, accusing the poll panel of ignoring the party’s complaints on alleged “widespread rigging” of booths in the Mewat region of the Gurgaon parliamentary seat. Yadav also asked for a repoll in 110 booths and alleged that the party had submitted analysis and video evidence of the reported wrongdoing, but no action was taken.

In the letter addressed to CEC V S Sampath, Yadav said the AAP had submitted a complaint to the EC on April 10, the day Gurgaon went to polls.

“We also submitted a scientific analysis of station-wise turnout data which established that there was a cluster of booths that recorded abnormally high turnout, upwards of 90 per cent… that these were concentrated in the areas where we had complained about rigging and that the dispersion of turnout did not follow normal statistical pattern in the three segments (Nuh, Firozpur-Zhirka and Punhana) of the constituency. This statistical analysis suggests that rigging may have been more wide-spread that the 110 polling stations that we have mentioned in our original complaint. Prashant Bhushan brought this to your personal attention,” Yadav said.

Hinting at the party’s belief that officials had either been negligent or had intentionally allowed irregularities, Yadav said, “While I am yet to receive a formal response to my representation, my colleague, Prashant Bhushan, was told in his meeting with the EC that you have received reports… and are not in favour of re-polling. I must confess that I am really shocked. I do not know whether you went by the report of the same officials whose negligence or collusion was responsible for these irregularities or the commission obtained an independent report in the matter.”

Telecast of Modi speech violation of model code: AAP

The AAP wrote to the Election Commission on Monday, complaining against several media houses for violating the model code of conduct during the last phase of elections. “Aam Aadmi Party is shocked to see the gross violation of the model code of conduct by media houses and the ostrich approach of the EC today, wherein TV news channels have been broadcasting Narendra Modi’s live speeches. Headlines Today, IBN, Aajtak, Zee News telecast these speeches at 11.30 am. The whole of India is aware that Modi is a contestant in Varanasi and broadcasting his political speeches today amounts to influencing the voters of Varanasi,” the complaint said. (ENS)
