The Countdown has begun. In a matter of hours, you can meet Chacha Chaudhary, the Indian superhero aka Shaktimaan, and many more comic book favourites. As the Free Comic Book Weekend (FCBW) goes live on May 3, 12 am, here’s a quick note to comic book lovers: strap in.
The second edition of the event marshalled by Comic Con India has lined up a host of publishers, from Amar Chitra Katha (ACK) and Campfire Graphic Novels to Vimanika Comics and Diamond Comics. Other highlights from the list include Pop Culture Publishing, Chariot Comics, Orange Radius and Astute Media Vision. Says Jatin Varma, founder, Comic Con India, “FCBW was started last year to generate interest in Indian comics. We are making Indian comics available for fans right at their fingertips via digital editions powered by Readwhere.” The first edition saw 15,000 fans claiming their free comics, and this year’s goal is to outdo last year’s number. Manish Dhingra, Director and Co-Founder, Readwhere.com, says, “The idea is to get comic book lovers to read more especially on their mobiles and tables. So the focus this year is on reading with hand-held devices.” Based on the model followed in the United States, Readwhere.com will be offering any five titles for free from a set of 15 popular ones. Titles other than the five, will be available at a special weekend discount.
So starting Saturday until 11.59 pm on May 4, choose from a list that includes Draupadi: The Fire-Born Princess (Campfire), Satya Police (Pop Culture Publishing), Tinkle (ACK) and many more.
