Wall collapse kills man in N-E Delhi

NEW DELHI: Two days after a wall collapsed in Outer Delhi’s Narela area killing a 9-year old girl,another wall collapsed in Khajuri Khas area of North-East district on Sunday afternoon. A 47-year-old man was killed and his son suffered injuries after they were trapped inside the collapsed wall. The deceased,Usman and his son were trapped inside the debris of a wall that collapsed on Sunday at around 1.30 pm. “The victims were rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur hospital where Usman succumbed to his injuries. His 18-year-old son,Jahid,is recuperating,” police said. A case of negligence has been registered against the owner of the house,Jitender Bhati. “Inquiry is on in the incident. No arrest has been made,” an officer said.

Boy drowns in Yamuna during idol immersion

NEW DELHI: A five-year-old boy drowned in Yamuna river when he had gone for the idol immersion of lord Ganesha along with his family members on Sunday morning. The victim,identified as Kunal,was a resident of Outer district’s Mongolpuri area and had gone to immerse the idol of Lord Ganesha in the Yamuna. “The victim’s family approached the Yamuna river near Wazirabad bridge for the idol immersion. But meanwhile,Kunal had gone in the deep water and drowned,” said a police officer. According to police,a group of underwater divers and police officers arrived at the spot but even after a long effort,the divers failed to fish out the body of the victim.

Showers likely today,says weatherman

NEW DELHI: Though the weekend witnessed bright sunny days,rains may reappear on Monday. The metrological department said that the city received 0.6 mm of rain since 8 am yesterday in comparison to 96.6 mm rainfall recorded on Friday that lashed the capital leaving 180 spots waterlogged,causing massive traffic jams. Though there is a possibility of rains or thundershowers in some areas on Monday with temperature likely to oscillate between 26 to 34 degrees. “There is less possibility of heavy rains now,but we are geared up to face any eventuality. We have made sure that drainage pumps are working fine,” an official said.
