Christmas Cheer

Our young politicians believe in working hard and partying harder.

So Union Minister of Rural Development,Agatha Sangma,opened the doors of her home at 34,Aurangzeb Road,for a pre-Christmas bash on Friday night. As several cars lined outside,the 30-year old Member of Parliament from Meghalaya was seen spreading Christmas cheer with her family and friends.

Every year my father used to invite all members of the Parliament and his friends for a big bash. Now I am continuing the tradition, said Sangma,who will be joining her family back in her hometown Tura,Meghalaya,for Christmas and New Year eve.

While a giant Christmas tree was placed in the garden,the gathering of 200-odd gorged on Christmas feast. In attendance were political and social dignitaries,including opposition leader LK Advani,Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit,Speaker Meira Kumar,MPs Jyotiraditya Scindia and Sachin Pilot,Minister for Road Transport and Highways Kamal Nath and kathak dancer Shovana Narayan.

Rushing out,after making a brief appearance,Pilot stated,Shaadiyan bahut hai aaj,kanyadan karne jana hai. Shashi Tharoor had a suggestion for wife Sunanda Pushkar,as he cautioned,Watch out what you say,when she was speaking to the media.

The real action,however,was at the other end of the bungalow,where a Chennai-based band was singing Christmas carols. Rahul Gandhi was rumoured to make an appearance,but with his Wikileaks debacle,he chose to stay clear of the press.
