The Supreme Court-constituted SIT on black money has recommended that the probe against suspended Noida chief engineer Yadav Singh be handed over to the CBI, sources said on Tuesday.

Singh was suspended after crores in cash and jewellery were recovered in an Income-Tax (I-T) raid at his residence in November last year. The I-T department recovered diamonds worth several crores, Rs 10 crore cash and around 2 kg gold from Singh’s residence.

Alleged to have close links with politicians and bureaucrats, Singh also came under the scanner of the SIT on black money as it asked the CBDT to share information with the ED so that money laundering charges could be pressed against him and his accomplices.

Singh, appointed as chief engineer of Noida Authority during the BSP regime from 2007-12, was suspended when the SP came to power, but was later reinstated.

The Allahabad High Court on Monday set February 23 as the next date of hearing of a PIL filed by social activist Nutan Thakur, alleging irregularities, misuse of post and corruption against Singh.

The Lucknow bench of the High Court had given time to the state government to file reply on a PIL that sought direction for a CBI probe in the matter and had fixed February 16 as the next date of hearing.

Meanwhile, the UP government on Saturday constituted a one-member inquiry commission, headed by Justice (retired) Amarnath Verma, to probe the allegations against Singh.
