Barapullah Nullah elevated corridor unveiling on Sunday

On sunday, the much-awaited Barapullah Nullah elevated road will be opened for the public.

First trial run from Games Village to JLN Stadium the same day

On sunday, the much-awaited Barapullah Nullah elevated road will be opened for the public. The Traffic Police, along with the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC),will be carrying out the first trial run on the stretch between the Games Village and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

As part of the trial run,250 buses will start from the Games Village in the afternoon for the JLN stadium. “The idea is to see the time taken for boarding, alighting and travelling,as the planning has to be done accordingly,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyender Garg. This is especially important in view of the opening ceremony when 60,000 people will be present and the arrivals and departures have to be synchronised,he added.

All structural work on the Barapullah Nullah elevated corridor was completed last week. At present, only black-topping work of the road surface and fitting of streetlights is being done. “Only black-topping work and electrification work on the joints over the four-cantilever crossing is being done,” said project manager of the corridor,Sarvagya Shrivastava.

According to the planning done by experts hired by the Organising Committee, the time taken to travel from each Games venue and Games Village should be assessed in advance. As per a report submitted by transport consultant Jason Angelopoulos, the 8-km distance between the JLN Stadium and the Games Village can be covered in 16 minutes if the bus is travelling at the speed of 20 km per hour.
