Expect a medley of music, food, fashion and art at the North East Festival
These days, the term “cultural extravaganza” is thrown around like so much confetti at a film release promising the same. The second edition of the North East Festival, however, to be held at the IGNCA promises to deliver a diorama, encapsulating food, fashion, films, culture and people of the region.
Here are the highlights:
Taste Over 14 food stalls serving up fare from the eight states will vie for your attention. Up for grabs is food from Delhi restaurants such as Dzukou, Roasang, and Nagaland Kitchen as well as restaurants from the various states.
Listen There will be performances from over 40 bands from the region, spread out during the daytime carnival as well as concerts in the evening. The eclectic line-up includes performances by Soulmate, The Vinyl Records, Akhu, Brahmaputra Boys, Tetseo Sisters, Imphal Talkies, Minute of Decay, Girish and the Chronicles as well as Bollywood singer Ash King.
Feel The eight states — Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim— will be presenting individual handicrafts and handlooms and myriad exhibitions will explore various facets of the Northeast through installations and photographs.
See Apart from the curated dance performances during the day, a host of young designers will be showcasing their fashion lines in the evenings. Established names include Dhiraj Deka from Assam (who participated in London Fashion Week 2013), Yana Ngoba (Arunachal Pradesh), and Garima Saikia Garg (Assam), besides 10 other upcoming designers, who will show their collection.
Talk It’s not just fun and games, as this year’s festival gears up to hold a series of talks on topics as diverse as education, tourism, agro-food processing and entrepreneurship in the Northeast. Speakers include Union ministers Smriti Irani, Jual Oram, Nitin Gadkari and Ministers of State VK Singh, Shripad Yesso Naik and Piyush Goyal. There are talks that PM Narendra Modi may inaugurate the festival.
The North East Festival will be held at IGNCA, Janpath from November 7 to 10 (11am-10pm). Entry is free
