Check working of fair price shops,HC tells govt
New Delhi: Upset over the denial of subsidised rations to the poor due to unscheduled closure of fair price shops,the Delhi High Court ordered the Delhi government to strictly monitor their working and take penal action against defaulters. The court directive came after it was apprised of the unscheduled closure of a fair price shop in Bhim Nagar area near Nangloi in West Delhi. The court also directed that ration cards of the poor,including a woman with seven children,be renewed as fast as possible,after being told that the delay was depriving them of rations. The Food and Supply departments assistant commissioner gave an undertaking to constitute a task force within three days to check the functioning of fair price shops.
Wife of Red Fort shootout convict allowed to access bank account
New Delhi: Three years after her acquittal in the December 2000 Red Fort shootout case,the Delhi High Court on Thursday allowed Rehmana Yusuf Farooqui,wife of a death row convict and a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant,to access her bank account,which was frozen by the police during the probe. The court reasoned that Farooqui was acquitted and the prosecution had not filed any appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the acquittal. On September 13,2007,the Delhi High Court acquitted Farooqui and five others,while confirming the death penalty of her husband.
MCD continues demolition: Four shops,three properties razed
New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) continued its drive against unauthorised constructions and sealed four shops constructed illegally in a property in Sector-7,Rohini on Thursday. The Building department also undertook demolition action against three other properties in Sector-7 and 11 in Rohini. The action was taken by the Building department,Rohini Zone,with the help of the local police.
