The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to hear a PIL seeking direction to the Centre to avail the assistance of technocrats for timely completion of Commonwealth Games projects. A division bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra dismissed the PIL filed by lawyer Amitabha Sen seeking the formation of a panel of experts.”This court cannot interfere in the construction involved in Games projects,” the bench said.

DMRC to construct Jaipur Metro
The Delhi Metro is now all set to take up its first fully independent turnkey project outside the Delhi-NCR region,after the

Rajasthan government approached it to construct the metro rail for Jaipur. An agreement will be signed on Thursday in Jaipur in the presence of Ashok Gehlot,Rajasthan Chief Minister and Dr E Sreedharan,Managing Director of DMRC. The cost of the project is Rs 1,250 crore and the implementation time is three years and seven months after signing of the agreement.

Former tenant held for woman’s murder
Gurgaon: A 50-year-old woman was strangled to death at her house in Sector 7 on Wednesday. The police have arrested her former tenant for the crime. The police said the accused,Ajay Kumar Yadav alias Ashu,used to visit the deceased Neelam Sharma often. When Sharma’s son Akshay returned home in the evening,he found Ashu leaving the house. Inside,he found his mother’s body and raised an alarm,after which Ashu was nabbed. “Ashu wanted to extract money from Sharma and thus visited her,” said DCP (West) Maheshwar Dayal. The police added that he killed her with the intention of looting the house.

Court defers hearing on Uphaar case
The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjeev Kumar on Wednesday deferred until August 9 its order on a plea by a group of victims of the 1997 Uphaar fire tragedy,seeking rejection of the CBI’s closure report giving a clean chit to former IPS officer Amod Kanth. The petitioner,Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy (AVUT) alleged that Kanth,then DCP of Delhi (Licencing),permitted extra seating in the balcony of the theatre hall in October 1979,which allegedly led to closure of the exit gates.The CBI had stated the 37 extra seats were allowed by the officer on technical advice,a claim the lawyer for AVUT K T S Tulsi rejects.
