Electoral roll revision from today
Following an Election Commission directive,a fresh drive for summary revision of electoral rolls in the national capital will begin on Wednesday. The summary revision will be carried out taking January 1,2010,as qualifying date. Delhis Election department officials said the revised electoral roll will be published on July 9. People will be able to file claims and objections till June 12,said an official.
Six held with three endangered tortoises
Ghaziabad: Six persons have been arrested for allegedly transporting endangered tortoises for the purpose of selling. Raghubir Lal,SSP-Ghaziabad,said the accused were arrested near Khoda Bridge while they were taking three tortoises. The accused told us they captured tortoises from a pond near Palwal and was planning to sell them to a tantrik in Agra, he said.
35-yr-old woman found dead at home
Ghaziabad: Body of a 35-year-old woman was found in her rented accommodation in Sahibabad on Monday night. According to the police,Resham,mother of six,was found dead by her husband Raees,who works as a driver with a warehouse. The womans body was packed in a box and bore injury marks on the head,suggesting she was hit with a strong object. The postmortem report is awaited
High Court reserves order against Sajjan Kumar
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday reserved its order on Congress leader Sajjan Kumars petition contesting the framing of charges against him in the killing of five persons during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. A city court last week ordered the framing of charges against Sajjan Kumar and five others. The CBI has filed a chargesheet against the accused in two cases for allegedly instigating mobs during the riots.
Insufficient funds for streetlights: MCD
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi might not be able to complete the last phase of installing streetlights in the city before the 2010 Commonwealth Games. The Corporation has claimed that it is yet to receive funds from the Delhi government to purchase the streetlights. MCD is supposed to install streetlights along 704 kilometres of road length which includes many residential areas. It is currently installing streetlights along 50 major roads under phase-II,which will operate automatically.
Rs 50 lakh worth ganja recovered
A tempo driver was arrested from Outer Delhi allegedly with 324 kg of ganja worth around Rs 50 lakh in the market,the police said on Tuesday. Jaipal Singh,a resident of Azadpur,was apprehended on Monday from near Shani Bazaar on Narela Road,during a checking,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Chhaya Sharma said. He tried to flee but was intercepted. Thirty-seven plastic packets of ganja were recovered from the vehicle, Sharma said.
Man kills uncle to repay loans,arrested
A 31-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his 55-year-old uncle to repay loans,police said on Tuesday. Deepak Bobal,a resident of Paschim Vihar,was apprehended from Prashant Vihar market on Monday for the murder of Surender Singh,who runs a jewellery shop on the ground floor of his Moti Nagar residence. Singh was allegedly killed on March 27. Bobal allegedly took gold and cash worth lakhs his uncles house after murdering him.
