Senior IAS officers transferred
Along with 14 officers of the Delhi government,two key officers from the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s office were transferred on Tuesday. Alka Diwan,Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister,and Keshav Chandra,Special Secretary to the Chief Minister,were transferred to Daman and Goa respectively. Other prominent names in the list of 14 officials include senior IAS officer Sumati Mehta,who heads the Planning department at present. Mehta is the wife of Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta and has been transferred to Mizoram.

B’deshis among 8 held
Eight alleged robbers,including six Bangladeshi nationals,were arrested for their alleged involvement in more than 200 cases of robberies and dacoities,the police said on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal said identified the accused as Ikramul Haq,37,Khokan,35,Mohd Saleem,28,Mohd Sakil Sheikh,20,Mohd Wakil,35,(all from Bangladesh),and Mohd Habib,28,and Anwar Surinder Singh,26. Dhaliwal said the accused were arrested on April 30 and jewellery worth several lakhs,a pistol,five vehicles and a motorcycle were recovered from them.

Vasant Vihar shop looted
Unidentified robbers looted Rs 7 lakh from a shop in E-Block Market,Vasant Vihar,on Monday night. The police said the shop owner,Vijay Kumar Gupta,left the shop at 9.30 pm on Monday. When he returned on Tuesday morning he found locks broken and cash missing from the shop. A case of theft under Sections 457 and 380 has been registered at the Vasant Vihar station.

MCD demolition drive
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi plans to begin a demolition drive against unauthorised construction in the Central zone from Wednesday. Officials said the civic body will deploy around six different teams across the zone. To begin with,the demolition will be carried out in areas like Bhogal,Pulprahladpur and the neighbouring unauthorised colonies

45-year-old electrocuted
A 45-year-old man was electrocuted near his Baljeet Nagar residence on Tuesday. The police said Ram Sunder,a vendor,switched on an electric booster pump connected to an underground water storage tank and got electrocuted. He was rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

‘Remove illegal hoardings’
The Advertisement department of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has written to all oil companies stating they need requisite permission from the civic body to put up hoardings or banners in the premises of the petrol pumps run by them in areas under its jurisdiction. The companies have also been asked to remove all unauthorised hoardings by May 15 or face action.
