Making maths fun
To make maths education enjoyable for children,Jodo Gyan,a non-profit organisation involved in pedagogical research in elementary maths and science,is holding an eleven-day national event Beyond Mathlab. The event that kicked off on Tuesday will run till December 18 and includes workshops,demonstrations and an exhibition of activities with Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs) for maths education. For the NGO that develops innovative solutions to the problems faced by teachers in classrooms when they are focussing on maths,there is a need to think beyond the demonstration of mathematical relationships using concrete materials in mathlabs. There is a need for learning mathematics by focussing on classroom-based hands-on activities in the primary classes,according to Jodo Gyan. The event is open to schools and teachers who are interested.
MCD streetscaping
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is all set to begin streetscaping work on 12 streets near the Commonwealth Games venues,with the consultants appointed for the same reportedly finalising all designs. The corporation will spend over Rs 100 crore for the makeover.
3,500 mobiles seized
Delhi Police have seized over 3,500 mobile phones without unique identity numbers,mainly imported from China,following raids in the national capital and arrested 23 shopkeepers selling such sets. Several shops in Central Delhi were raided.
Criminal held in E Delhi
A man allegedly involved in at least 18 cases of murder and attempt and having a reward of Rs 20,000 on his head,was arrested in the Capital,police said on Thursday. A countrymade pistol and two live cartridges were also recovered from him,police said. Sahadat was caught from near Seelampur Metro Station on Tuesday,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar said.
Seven of a gang held
Seven members of a gang who hit people with baseball bats and rods and robbed them in West Delhi were arrested by the Delhi Police on Thursday. The gang members include a milk booth owner,a cosmetics shop owner,a labourer in a bulb factory,a collection agent of a mobile phone company,a street vendor and two minors. Weve arrested them and solved two cases of robbery and a case of vehicle theft, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sharad Aggarwal.
Rare parrots seized
A team of the People For Animals has seized consignments of rare parrots in Ghaziabad on Wednesday night. The parrots were being illegally transported to Rajasthan in a state roadways bus. The team has recovered around 500 parrots. According to Gaurav Kumar of the People For Animals,there were 150 Alexandrine and around 350 Rose-ringed Parakeets being transported to Jaipur via Ghaziabad .
