A Delhi Police head constable was injured after a speeding car rammed him in Chanakyapuri on Sunday. The police said the incident was reported around 11.45 pm from near Nehru Park. “The cops had barricaded the road. When a speeding Zen was asked to stop,the driver didn’t stop and crossed the barricade,hitting Head Constable Rajbir,” a police officer said. M Rajesh,the driver,was arrested and booked for drunken driving and attempt to murder. Rajbir was discharged after first aid.

40-yr-old hangs self
A 40-year-old unemployed man committed suicide at his Vasant Kunj home on Monday. Subhash was found hanging from the grill in his house around 11 pm. The police said he was depressed after losing his job. “The family told us that Subhash took to drinking heavily and was always depressed,” the police said.

Woman found dead
A 22-year-old woman was found dead in the Palam area on Tuesday. Babita allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself. Her body was found by her husband,Vikas,around 10 in the morning. He informed the police. The police recovered a suicide note from Babita’s room,in which she said she is solely responsible for her death.

10-yrs jail for rape
A city court on Tuesday sentenced a middle-aged man to 10 years in jail for raping his stepdaughter. Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Sharma threw out a leniency plea by the convict who said he had clean antecedents and a family to support. “The convict,the stepfather of the victim,had a duty to protect her but he committed the dastardly act against the child,who looked upon him for shelter. He deserves no leniency,” the court said. Javed was arrested in January 2007 after the eight-year-old girl’s mother had lodged an FIR at the Krishna Nagar police station.

HSBC CEO summoned
A city court has summoned the CEO of HSBC India and some of its senior officers for allegedly forging documents and producing them as evidence to wriggle out of case related to termination of an employee. Metropolitan Magistrate Jitendra Mishra recently issued summons seeking appearance of the bank’s CEO,HR head and manager (North India) on July 28.

3-year RI in graft case
A city court on Tuesday sentenced a former MTNL official and a consultant of a private firm to three years’ rigorous imprisonment for demanding and accepting bribe for clearing the bills of a contractor. The court held Damber Singh,MTNL official and D P Verma,a consultant with TCIL,guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on them.

Girl rescued
A 15-year-old girl was kidnapped by three men in Jahangirpuri on Tuesday. The police later recovered her from Haryana and arrested the kidnappers. The police claim the girl’s family might be involved. “We will come to know once we interrogate the girl,the three boys and her family,” a police officer said. “The kidnappers told us they had made a deal for kidnapping the girl but there was some problem over money due to which they left her mid-way,” the police said. A case of abduction has been filed.

MSc student kills self
An MSc student,Nisha (25),committed suicide in Bindapur area on Monday. She left no suicide note. Nisha was alone at home,say the family,adding they could not understand why she committed suicide.
