Ravinder Singh Gill, a Regional Transport Authority (RTA) officer posted in Punjab’s Jalandhar, was found dead in the bathroom of his flat Tuesday. He was 54.
Preliminary investigations suggest that he may have suffered a heart attack, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report.
Sanjeev Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO), Sadar Police Station, said all aspects are being examined. The police will also record statements of family members to rule out any suspicion, Kumar added.
According to the Jalandhar police, Gill lived alone in the flat at Jalandhar Heights. When he did not come out of his house in the morning, his driver and gunman grew suspicious and went inside the flat. When they opened the bathroom door, they found him lying unconscious and immediately informed the police.
A police team reached the spot and took the body into custody for further investigation.
Gill is survived by his wife and two sons, one of whom was married a few days ago.
Family members reached Jalandhar and took his body to their native place in Bathinda for the last rites.
Gill was earlier posted as a motor vehicle inspector in Bathinda, and later served at the Chandigarh head office following his promotion. Recently, he was given an additional charge as RTA, Jalandhar.
